JC Penney and Lifetouch advertised for portrait photographers. Specialty gift shop Things Remembered was seeking an engraver. Cheesecake Factory's wish list included bussers, servers, dishwashers, dessert finishers and espresso makers.
Others jobs: security officers, traffic control attendants and part-time cab drivers.
Fanatics, a company that creates custom pro sports apparel, enlisted staffing agency Kelly Services to fill 1,500 seasonal jobs at its facility on National Turnpike in Fairdale, up from 900 last year.
"It's the overall economy" looking up, which has translated into a projected 40 percent increase in Fanatics' holiday sales, said Douglas Jaynes, senior human resource manager.
Pickers, setters and pressers will pocket from $10.50 to $12.25 an hour on first and second shifts, with 50 cents more an hour for those working evenings.
Rue La La, a Boston-based online retailer of high-end fashion merchandise with a warehouse in Shepherdsville, also hired Kelly to fill 300 positions, a first for the company locally. Seven other area companies also hired Kelly to handle recruitment and employment services this season, said district manager Nikki Greene.
